Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung, and Nghe An and Ha Tinh high officials, took part in the ground-breaking ceremony.

The bridge will be built by PMU 85 of the Traffic and Transport Ministry with total investment capital of VND1.26 trillion (US$67 million).

The project aims to reduce traffic overload on the current Ben Thuy Bridge, which has been in use since 1990. The bridge is also hoped to improve the investment environment and economies of the two provinces, said Deputy PM Hung.

Once finished, the four-lane Ben Thuy II Bridge will measure 3 km long and 24 meters wide. Work on the bridge is expected to be completed by October 2012.
