Vietnam to test Triclosan on Colgate products

Triclosan has been linked to cancer-cell growth and disrupted development in animals, and many companies are ceasing to put it in other products. Accordingly, the news of Triclosan in Colgate has caused concern amid consumers, the Drug Administration of Vietnam under the Ministry of Health August 20 said that this chemical triclosan is just allowed to add in cosmetic as a preservative substance with the content of less than 0.3 percent.

Earlier, the news that Triclosan in Colgate’s products can cause cancer for consumer which the US’s Food and Drug Administration mentioned is being debated. No country has reached to final conclusion of the effect of this chemical. The Drug Administration of Vietnam said that this chemical can be used like a disinfectant.

EU countries and FDA and Asian nations government agree that the producers can use Triclosan with the content of less than 0.3 percent.

Vietnam health watchdogs and other countries have not received any warning of the chemical usage in cosmetic products. Colgate Palmolive in Vietnam has announced its cosmetic products to contain Triclosan with the content of less than 0.3 percent.

Related agencies will take samples nationwide for tests on the content of all banned chemicals including Triclosan. Any violations will be fined.
