The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations and Vietnam–ASEAN Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City yesterday held a ceremony on the 49th founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
At the ceremony, Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam– ASEAN Friendship Association Chairwoman Mrs. Phan Thi Hong Xuan highly appreciated the important role and responsibility of ASEAN in building global security and economy structure.
The bloc has experienced rapid economic growth with its gross domestic products (GDP) at US$ 2,600 billion. Thus, the establishment of ASEAN Economic Community in late 2015 has contributed to affirm value for regional cooperation, dialogue and integration.
On behalf of ASEAN member countries, Lao Consul General in HCMC Somsay Sanam Oune said that ASEAN has faced many challenges within the framework of on- going regional and the world’s fluctuations; however, the group still continues to become the world’s sixth large economy.
Under the role of ASEAN Chair in 2016, Laos in collaboration with ASEAN’s member countries are actively implementing the ASEAN Vision 2025.
