The donor was 62-year-old Nguyen Viet Bong in the central province of Quang Nam who expressed his wish to donate the cornea after death. Physicians of the infirmary were quick to arrive at his house to take the cornea.
The first recipient was Phan Huu Lac, a senior veteran, who lost vision because of injuries in the war time. The second recipient was 38-year-old Le Phuoc Hieu who has to be assisted by his mother for daily activities from the age of ten.
