Thousands of young people join charity walk

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union kicked off a charity walk on Tan Trao Street in district 7, Ho Chi Minh City on August 14, aiming to raise fund for poor pupils and students.

More than 5, 000 union memberships and young people whose are living, working and studying in the city took part in the meaningful event.

This event is a major part of the Volunteer Days 2016. On the occasion, the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union presented 20 scholarships worth VND 20 million for poor students whose having the best study achievement, and 10, 000 notebooks for children in suburban districts of Cu Chi and Can Gio.

Sponsors, organizations and enterprises offered VND 11, 4 billion for the program. The money will be donated for 1, 300 poor pupils and students across the country before new school year 2016- 2017.

On the same day, the 2016 Volunteer Days also took place at 24 districts citywide with many activities such as offering gifts for children, opening science playgrounds for students and others activities.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, this year’s Green Summer Campaign attracted 147, 189 young people. Of these, 21, 678 volunteers will join social activities in Tho Chu Islands (an archipelago in the Gulf of Thailand).
