A relatively strong earthquake measuring 4.6 on the Richter scale occurred in Bac Tra My District in the central province of Quang Nam at 28 seconds after 8.41pm on Monday, reported the Institute of Geophysics.
The quake caused tremors of level 6 on the MSK-64 scale at the Song Tranh 2 Hydropower Plant area.
Dang Phong, chairman of the People’s Committee, said that the quake was the strongest so far to take place in the district.
The quake lasted 10 seconds and sent residents fleeing from their houses in Bac Tra My District and also neighboring districts of Nam Tra My, Tien Phuoc and Hiep Duc.
People in Tam Ky City, nearly 100 kilometers from Bac Tra My District, also felt the tremors.
Local residents and authorities are worrying over recurring earthquakes that are occurring periodically and strengthening in intensity.
