By statistics of the Ministry of Health, the country has recorded over 10,000 cases of dengue fever; of which, the figure increased by 35 percent in the South compared to last year.

The Agency of Health Environment Management under the Ministry of Health and Enesis Corporation said at a meeting with an aim to prevent the disease in Hanoi on May 25. It is forecast that in the next time the disease will develop complicatedly and uncontrollably due to climate change and living environment pollution in many places.

From now to end of August, 2015, 500,000 Soffell mosquito repellent in the form of lotion will be distributed gratis to residents in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and nine provinces in the Mekong Delta region including Can Tho, Hau Giang, Ca Mau, Soc Trang, An Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh and Vinh Long which have most dengue fever cases.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, deputy head of the Agency of Health Environment Management warned that most of people have dengue fever especially children. Worse, the disease can kill but there is no vaccine or medication against the disease.

Accordingly, to prevent the disease, people should clean the living environment and drinking water containers, discarded car tires, flower vases and ant traps around the houses which are popular breeding places of mosquitoes.

Moreover, people should apply protective measures for themselves such as using mosquitoes-nets and other control measures include preventing mosquito bites with screens, protective clothing and insect repellents; in epidemic risk areas, application of insecticide is practiced (through an application method known as fogging) to decrease the mosquito population.

The Ministry said that the dengue fever usually occurs in the rainy season and the South Vietnam is a hot spot of the disease.
