SGGP raises $75,000 for flood victims

The SGGP’s relief delegations October 22 handed over aid relief to affected victims at Huong Khe and Vu Quang districts, Ha Tinh Province.

The delegations offered VND80 million ($4,000) to 381 households at Huong Xuan and Huong Lien, Huong Khe District and 31 aid relief packs to Chut ethnic people, Huong Lien District.

The delegations also offered VND3.8 million to Dau Thi Dan’s family at Rao Tre Hamlet, Huong Lien District.

To date, nine out of 22 communes in Huong Khe District has been isolated by floodwaters.

They have been isolated and suffered hunger since floodwaters began rising last week. Around 152,000 houses were submerged in floodwaters, isolating thousands of people having not enough time to evacuate.

In the afternoon of the same day, the delegations offered 400 aid relief packs, worth VND80 million to affected victims in mountainous districts of Vu Quang, Ha Tinh.

Earlier, representatives from SGGP and Saigon Port Company delivered 500 aid relief packs, worth VND100 million to own hands of victims at An Thuy commune and Kien Giang town.

Vietcombank’s communist youth union October 22 donated VND22 million, 100 instant noodles boxes and books to affected victims in the central provinces.

Vietcombank also donated VND500 million to people in central provinces a few days earlier.

In related news, the Australian Embassy in Hanoi said its government will donate AUD 200,000 (around VND3.9 billion) to the Emergency Relief Aid Fund in response to the call of the Vietnam Red Cross (VRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies to help Vietnam’s central flood victims.

The Australian Government’s contribution will help the VRC continue with its emergency relief activities, including providing drinks, blankets, mosquito nets, food and other necessities for flood victims.

For the same purpose, the Government of the Republic of Korea has decided to provide a relief aid of $100,000 to the VRC.
