The Environment Protection Police under the Ministry of Public Security has recently uncovered several business companies releasing untreated wastewater into the Saigon River in Cu Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City.

On August 15, the Thanh Cong Plastic Company was caught red-handed discharging untreated wastewater into the Cau Den Canal in Binh My Commune, eventually spewing into the Sai Gon River.

A company representative explained that because their treatment plant was unable to treat the entire wastewater, it had installed an underground pipeline to spew the wastewater from its reservoir directly into the canal.

Such similar practice was also being followed by the Tam Hop Plastic and Rubber Company in Tan Thanh Dong Commune. Police officials found that because the company’s wastewater treatment plant had not been functioning for a long time ten cubic meters of untreated wastewater and mud was being discarded into the river everyday.

Others companies found discarding untreated wastewater into the Vam Sau and Go Chua canals in downstream areas of the Saigon River were the Lien Hiep Rubber Company, Thai Hung Thinh Trade Company in Binh My Commune and the P.T.H Production Company in Tan Thanh Dong Commune.
