The Seoul Family Court granted the divorce and asset division request from Lee Boo-jin, chief executive officer of Hotel Shilla Co., a Samsung affiliate, and gave Lee legal parental rights for and custody of the couple's only son, reported from the Yonhap News Agency.
Lee, 47, filed for divorce in 2014, after 15 years of marriage with Im Woo-jae, former advisor of Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co., citing irreconcilable differences.
A Suwon district court approved the initial claim for divorce early last year. But the case was transferred to family court later as Im filed an appeal and claim for asset division seeking over 1 trillion won.
The family court also upheld the district court's earlier ruling on giving Im rights to visit his son once a month.
Im's legal representative said he will file for another appeal, claiming that Lee's shares are not included in the asset separation.
Neither Lee nor Im appeared in court on Thursday.
The couple got married in 1999, making media headlines as a love story between an heiress of a multi-billion dollar business group and a rank-and-file employee at one of the conglomerate's units.
