Hundreds of environment workers were mobilized to clean up the beach along Hai Cang Ward in Quy Nhon City in the central province of Binh Dinh on July 8, in the aftermath of a serious oil spill along the coast.
Thousands of liters of oil leaked out from an unknown source on July 7 to threaten fishing farms of 75 local households along the coastline. Layers of black grimy oil were found flowing along a one kilometer stretch of Quy Nhon Beach.
On July 8, the People’s Committee of Binh Dinh Province worked with the People’s Committee in Quy Nhon City to find out the cause of the oil leak and implement measures to clean up the coastline.
The Quy Nhon Urban Environment Company has mobilized more than 200 workers to scrape and collect the layers of oil along the beach and to transport the oil-contaminated sand to garbage dumps.
Nguyen Van Tin, a representative of the company, said they would continue to clean up the beach even on July 9.
