Program launched to tackle pollution in handicraft villages

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a national level program that will tackle and reduce pollution and improve the environment quality in handicraft villages throughout the country   during the period 2012-2015.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has just approved a national level program that will tackle and reduce pollution and improve the environment quality in handicraft villages throughout the country   during the period 2012-2015.

The program will spend VND5.8 trillion (US$278 million) to tackle the increasing levels of pollution in 47 handicraft villages across the country, which are now badly affected.

The program also aims to improve and restore clean environment in 100 of the most seriously polluted areas that are suffering because of excessive leftover pesticide residues.

Other than this, the program will treat wastewater that is being directly discharged into the Nhue, Day, Cau and Dong Nai river basins.
