Hoan My Cuu Long Hospital in the Mekong delta City of Can Tho on August 7 announced doctors has provided emergency treatment on a patient from Vinh Long Province who suddenly spoke with a lisp and blocked brain vessel.
The patient was taken to the hospital while experiencing fever and speaking problem. The patient said she has fever along with shivering in an hour. Though she has gone to many hospitals for treatment, her illness did not abate.
Soon the patient was asked to get MRI and necessary steps; accordingly, doctors found out her to have brain damage due to shortage of blood.
Later, she got heart scan; subsequently, doctors discovered the woman to have ineffective endocarditis leading to vegetation in bicuspid valve. The vegetation was peeled off and drifted in blood causing blocked brain vessel.
Dr. Bui Van Day from the hospital’s Heart Ward said that the ineffective endocarditis is very dangerous because bacteria causes an infection of the endocardial surface of the heart, which may include one or more heart valves, the mural endocardium, or a septal defect. The illness develops silently with symptoms such as fever, shivering fits.
Patients with ineffective endocarditis are usually discovered late when they suffer complications like heart failure, peeled vegetation causing blocked brain vessel.
Accordingly, he advised people who experience fever for one week should go to infirmaries for check to avoid serious complications.
The woman recovered after receiving intensive treatment.
