At a closed door meeting this Saturday, May 26, the National Assembly will consider the dismissal of deputy Dang Thi Hoang Yen.
On the pretext of “being sick”, deputy Yen was absent from the opening session of the 3rd NA meeting on May 21.
Morning of May 21, the NA approved the agenda of the 3rd session. Accordingly, the NA deputy status of Ms. Yen will be considered in three meetings.
On the afternoon of May 23, Nguyen Thi Nuong, chief of the NA Committee of Deputy Affairs will present a petition to the NA on the dismissal of deputy Yen. One day later, deputies will discuss Ms. Yen’s case and cast their votes on her status as a NA member.
At the next meeting on Saturday, NA deputies will hear Ms Yen’s explanation and then take a decision.
If two thirds of the deputies agree on the dismissal, the NA will approve a resolution on Ms. Yen’s case.
Deputy Hoang Yen is registered to speak at the session on May 26.
In April, the Fatherland Front Committee of Long An Province and the Central Fatherland Front Committee proposed the removal of Deputy Hoang Yen from the legislative body for her incorrect declaration in her curriculum vitae.
As she wrote in her profile, Yen is a candidate from outside the Communist Party of Vietnam, since she left the area blank on the form for “date of admission to the Party, if any”.
However, later many sources confirmed that she had been a Party member in the past but abandoned regular Party unit meetings and activities a long time ago.
She also declared in her profile that her husband was Nguyen Tri Hai, who died in 1989, and did not mention her current husband--Jimmy Tran, 57, a Vietnamese-American. She sought a divorce from Tran by filing a petition at the Long An Province People's Court in July 2010, but recently withdrew the petition after the court’s verdict on the divorce case was cancelled by the Supreme People’s Court.
As reported earlier, while the divorce case was being processed, Jimmy Tran left Vietnam for the US on July 5, 2010.
On September 16, the Ministry of Public Security prosecuted Jimmy for “abusing trust of appropriate assets” when he was director-general of Vietnam Urban Development Joint Stock Company (Vietnam Land), located in Tan Duc Industrial Park in Long An Province.
At a press conference on April 21 in Long An Province, deputy Hoang Yen said that she had sent a petition to the NA and was willing to accept any decision made by the legislative body.
On May 4, Yen submitted her resignation to the NA Standing Committee.
In the document, Ms. Yen did not mention the direct reason for her resignation but she wrote that she was “tired” of “suffering pressure from public opinion”. She added that she anticipated she would face “accumulated difficulties” but was “willing to accept” them.
In May 2011, the Fatherland Front of Long An Province recommended Yen as a candidate for the 13th NA election and she won. She is now a member of the NA Committee for Culture, Education, Youth and Children.
