Speaking at a press conference, Myanmar military spokesperson Zaw Min Tun said the group of insurgents, named Arakan Army (AA), intercepted a ferry carrying off-duty police and soldiers running from Sittwe to Buthidaung township.
He noted such kind of action can affect the safety of transportation in the area, adding that further detailed information would be released later.
Earlier this month, some passengers, including 19 fire department personnel and 12 civilians, were abducted by the AA from an express bus on Mrauk U-Sittwe road in Mrauk U township.
