The epidemic is developing in China with a high possibility of crossing into Vietnam, according to the ministry. Two deaths from infection in the Binh Phuoc and Dong Thap provinces were reported on January 2014.

The ministry asks People’s Committee chairpersons to strengthen security in border regions. They will be collecting samples of pneumonia patients in hospitals and citizens from infected areas. Infected people will be quarantined during treatment.

The ministry warns citizens to avoid eating poultry of unknown origin.

An outbreak of measles in the northern provinces of Yen Bai and Son La killed a child and infected almost 90 people this year, said Dr. Le Thi Hong Van, Director of Preventive Medicine Center.

Medical staff in Yen Bai Province administered vaccinations to over 2,000 children ages one to 15. About 20 are still hospitalized for measles on February 6.

The outbreak infected 87 people in Chien An, Ngoc Chien, Muong Bu, and Muong Chum communes, said Dr. Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of Son La Province’s Preventive Medicine Center. Medical staff have vaccinated patients to reduce rate of infection.
