Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh yesterday presented 100 gifts to social welfare families, poverty-stricken households, families of Agent Orange victims in A Luoi mountainous district in the central province of Thua Thien – Hue. Each gifts is worth more than VND1 million ($43).
On this occasion, A Luoi District People’s Committee also handed out some 15,000 presents to many households as well as brought tons of rice to aid residents in disadvantaged communes. Total is nearly VND3.5 billion.
On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh visited and worked with administrators in the central province of Quang Tri’s Dakrong lauding that local government have taken care of destitute families and done social welfare task well. He also gave gifts to 150 top social welfare beneficiaries and students from low-income families.
Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien took part in the program “Tet sum vay” ( Tet – gathering time) organized by the Labor Union of Thua Thien – Hue. At the event, the Minister gave 50 gifts each worth VND1.3 million including necessary items and cash to poor laborers.
Somewhere in the country, the Ho Chi Minh City Association for Support of the Disability and Orphans also held a program with the participation of over 1,000 people with disabilities and orphans residing charitable houses in districts citywide.
The association handed over more than 1,000 gifts totally worth VND800 million contributed by benefactors to participants. Before, in Dam Sen Cultural Park, the association had organized a fund-raising cuisine festival for disadvantaged children.
Enterprises and benefactors have contributed over VND400 million to take care of 60 kids in the charity house named Hy Vong ( Hope) No.6
