JERUSALEM (AFP) – A leader of the Islamist Hamas movement in the West Bank has been arrested by the Israeli security services which had wanted him for several years, an Israeli military spokesman announced Sunday.
Maher Uda, 47, a founder of Hamas's armed wing in the occupied West Bank, was captured in the Ramallah region overnight, the spokesman said.
"He had been on the wanted list since the end of the 1990s for his implication in a series of suicide attacks in Israel which claimed 70 lives," the military spokesman told AFP.
