The city’s Air Quality Index released on the city’s portal on September 18 was measured at 102 while the index in districts Ung Hoa, Phu Xuyen, Long Bien, and Bac Tu Liem were 153, 146, 152, and 153 respectively.
The index fluctuates from zero to 500, and the higher index shows the worse air quality.
The cause of high air quality index in the North Vietnam recently is because the region is in seasonal transition with less rain and wind.
Medical experts said that exposure to Fine Dust can have detrimental health effects, and has been known to lead to coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, irritation of the eyes/nose/throat, and can trigger asthma, bronchitis, and other respiratory problems.
To protect themselves, experts advised people to wear face masks while traveling in streets especially in rush hours.
