The Ministry of Planning and Investment on June 25 announced overall socioeconomic development plan by 2020 of the northern key economic region, in which GDP per capital is targeted at US$5,500.
The plan was approved by the Prime Minister in January this year with visions until 2030.
By 2020, agro-aqua-forestry sector will account for 5.5 percent of Gross Domestic Product while industry and construction will occupy 49 percent. It is determined to hit 45.4 percent for services.
The zone’s export value will account for 32 percent of the country’s total.
The number of skilled workers will increase to 80-85 percent and vocational training will reach 40-50 percent. The ratio of poor households will reduce 2 percent per year and their income will add to 2.5-3.5 times after every five years.
The northern key economic zone will include Hanoi sub-region and coastal sub-region. The former comprises Hanoi and Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen and Hai Duong Provinces. The later covers Hai Phong City and Quang Ninh Province.
Hanoi will be developed into a financial and banking center at international level.
