A calligraphy exhibition - featuring old sayings on family values, sentiments shared by members of a family and standard behaving principles in traditional households – will be held at the Vietnam Centre for Exhibition, Culture and Arts, No 2 Hoa Lu street, between June 24 and 28.
A fine arts exhibition themed "Family" will also open, featuring 50 paintings and sculptures by artists Le Cong Thanh, Bui Trong Du and Phuong Binh.
There will be two conferences, on gender equality and the quality of marriage in modern time, which will see the participation of scientists, social workers and State officials.
At least 50 families from Hai Ba Trung district are expected to take part in a cooking contest, and a talent contest for all family members will be the festival’s highlight.
On the sidelines, there will be a dance show, sport competition and yoga performance at the same site.
In 2007, the then Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung announced that June 28 would be celebrated as Vietnam Family Day every year, to reinforce the responsibilities of ministries, departments, social organisations and individuals in the process of building families, so as to achieve the goals of prosperity, progress, equality and happiness.
