According to the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the year, more than 14,000 cases of dengue fever have been reported across Vietnam, with 10 persons succumbing to the disease.
Most of the reported cases were natives of central, highlands and southeast regions. Some parts, namely Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen Provinces in Central Vietnam even reported an increase. Khanh Hoa reported more than 3,500 infected patients, including two fatalities, and Phu Yen had more than 1,200 dengue fever cases.
Epidemiological investigation showed that the disease enters its peak period during the raining season from July to September, at which time there is prolific breeding of mosquitoes.
