Cold spell spreads over the country

The highest temperature is measured at 29-30oC in the morning and 18-19oC in the evening.

The average temperature in the northern mountainous areas is 15-16oC in the evening. Some districts in Lao Cai, Ha Giang and Cao Bang provinces are hit by severe cold spells measured at 10-12oC. A number of cows and buffalo have died from the cold in the area.

Widespread frozen weather will also appear in the Southern central coast and southern region in October 29.

The cold weather has affected health thousands of people, especially many children, in Quang Binh, the worst-hit central province. They have been in need of more than 600,000 winter clothes and blankets.

The Swiss Red Cross in coordination with the Red Cross in Vietnam's Phu Yen province provided VND3.2 billion(US$160,000) to flood victims in EaBia and EaTrol villages in Song Hinh district from October 26-28.

Vietnam Women's Union of Ho Chi Minh City donated over VND650 million collected from its members in districts throughout the city to people in Quang Binh and Nghe Tinh provinces.

Vietnam Education Publishing House based in HCM City gave VND64 million, ten thousands of textbooks and notebooks, 155 boxes of instant noodles and over 2,500 clothes to people, teachers and students in Nghe An Province on October 28.

Dumex - Danone Vietnam Company Limited provided two tons of milk, more than 100,000 mineral water bottles and money to child flood victims in Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces.
The North-South Railway was re-opened on October 28 that has been closed during the past 10 days by the floods.
