Vietnam Road General Department said on December 28 that the department has completed the project to build local bridges and maintain roads in Vietnam in the 2016-2021 period.
Under the project, total investment capital will be over VND 9,2 trillion from the world bank's loan capital source, state and local budgets.
Accordingly, 50 provinces nationwide that have remote communes in mountainous region or areas will be built around 2,192 small bridges worth VND 5,798billion. Besides, 14 provinces in the northen areas and the coastal central regions will be invested to improve and maintaining roads with total capital of VND 3,296billion.
The other maintenance works will cost VND 108.45billion.
According to VRGD, the target of developing rural transportation by 2020 is to build suspension, small and large-scale bridges in mountainous region. For the 1st phase, 186 suspension bridges were completed from state budget.
During the 2nd phase, it is expected to build more suspension and cement bridges in minority ethnic areas starting in 2016 and forecast to be finished in 2021.
