Speaking at the conference, PM Phuc said that there should be a review of shoreline landslides and sediment in river gates to have long-term measures against it. But first of all, the government will allocate a sum for handling the problem.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, 13 central provinces having the length of the coastline is about 1,649 km and 48 river gates.
Lately, landslides and disappearance of river gates have developed complicatedly and escalated. Nghe An, Thua Thien – Hue, Quang Nam, Quang Ngau, Phu yen, Ninh Thuan, and Binh Thuan have seen the worst erosion.
River gates such as Lach Van and Lach Con in Nghe An province, Sot in Ha Tinh province, Nhat le in Quang Binh, Dai in Quang Ngai and Tam Quan, An Du in Binh Dinh province are at risk of disappearance because of filling of soil and mud.
According to reports of local governments, there have been 88 landslides in 120 kilometer from July, 2018. Provinces expected to have expenditure to control and prevent erosion and river gate sediment.
Moreover, related agencies should encourage inhabitants to prevent and control the two problems.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will liaise with other related ministries to provide money on the project to dredge river gates to let boats in and out easily.
