A household in Ho Chi Minh City suspected to buy fake rice as there had been many bizarre phenomenons doubting that the rice is plastic rice, related agencies carried out tests and confirmed suspected plastic rice is real rice.
Representatives from the National Department of Agro-Forestry-Fisheries Quality Assurance and the Department of Planting under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have directly checked the strange rice.
Pham Van Du, deputy head of the Department of Plant, said on October 4 that through testing rice sample, he confirmed it is real rice.
However, it takes time for further study why rice turned black and burnt smell like plastic. Mr. Du said that Vietnam has abundance of 6-7 million tons of rice a year; hence, nobody make fake rice to earn money as production cost for making fake rice is more expensive than price of real rice.
