The official opening ceremony of the Vietnam Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (VAIS) was organized at RMIT International University Vietnam in district 7, Ho Chi Minh City on March 17.
As the first ASEAN chapter of the Association of Information Systems (AIS), the Vietnam Chapter (VAIS) was established to accomplish the following goals: advancing the growth of the information systems discipline in Vietnam; setting up an IS research infrastructure in Vietnam; creating and maintaining a professional identity for IS educators, researchers as well as promote communications and interaction among them; and preparing the next generation of academics and professionals for a career in IS.
According to a report written by World Bank in 2008, the proportion of labor force with higher education is still low compared to other East Asian countries; for instance, 14 percent in Thailand and 18 percent in Malaysia. With about 5 percent of highly skilled labor, Vietnam is at the level of Indonesia.
Although the adoption of IS can not instantly increase the number of university graduates, it can definitely assist to deepen and broaden the depth and width of approaches used in training and education methodology.
