It is able to identify which index Vietnam shows great improvement and which needs more attention.
According to Mr. David Wroth, Director of Data Science of the Underwriters Laboratories, his team designs the UL Safety Index by making use of scientific data and algorithms in a novel way. This index evaluates other index, monitoring programs and results related to a safe environment of 187 nations in the world.
From this, his team is able to identify strengths and weaknesses of each country, especially regarding safety.
The newest version of the UL Safety Index was released last month in Vietnam with the main aim to supply important data to support the decision making process and the essential conversations of related parts on safety.
This new Index displays comparison on safety performance, allowing concerned bodies in one country to select the optimal reality from other nations so that they can make wiser decision.
The final result is more than just a provision of solutions for safety. It is the sharing of collected data among people who are able to make necessary actions to improve the society.
The UL Safety Index has shown that road traffic in Vietnam is the main source of injury and fatality. Being ranked at the 153th position, Vietnam possess a much higher index as to the rate of injury, disability, and fatality due to traffic accidents compared to other countries.
The nation also has a great number of injuries because of drowning incidents and falls.
Noticeably, Vietnam stands at the lowest position among Asian countries in the index of falls. The increase of injuries due to falls is closely related to the age of the population and the rise of life expectancy of Vietnamese citizens from 70 in 1990 to 76 in 2018.
Thanks to this Index, policy makers in Vietnam should focus more on safety issue in order to save more lives by actively improving road safety, decreasing accidents due to drowsing or falls. If done properly, the general safety in Vietnam would be significantly recovered.
