The Investigation police department in the Mekong delta city of Can Tho held a Taiwanese who had stabbed his Vietnamese wife to death at her home in custody, on May 4.

A 72-year-old Taiwanese man, whose name is translated into Vietnamese as Ly A Duc, was arrested on May 4 after he killed his 48-year-old Vietnamese wife named La My Hanh, who lived in An Hoa Ward, Ninh Kieu District.

According to police’s news, in March, 2014, Duc and Hanh married and later they left Vietnam for Taiwan (China). However, after living in Taiwan for half a year, Hanh decided to return to Vietnam in September, 2014. Despite that Duc beseech her to come back to Taiwan to live with him through telephone many times, she turned him down.

In February, Duc flied to Vietnam and arrived at Hanh’s house in Dong Phu Commune in Chau Thanh District to beg his wife to return Taiwan (China) again and a quarrel broke out between them. He splashed boiling water onto her and threatened her with knife. While local police were dealing with Duc’s assault on Hanh, the woman withdrew her complaint against her husband, so they only gave him an administrative penalty.

On May 2, Duc arrived in Can Tho City and rented a room in a hotel to convince her to fly back to Taiwan with him. Next day, he came to Hanh’s house in Nguyen Van Cu Street but they quarreled again. Duc then used a knife to repeatedly stab Hanh.

The man ran away after that, but he was seized by local police officers and residents shortly.
The victim was taken to a hospital but she died on the way, police said.
