The seminar was held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam Fisheries Society, the Vietnam Pangasius Association with the participation of leaders of Mekong delta provinces and local and international fisheries enterprises.
Deputy head of the Directorate of Fisheries Dr. Tran Dinh Luan said that aquatic breeding and export play important roles in the country’s agriculture sector.
In 2016, seafood export revenue reached over $7 billion, accounting for 24 percent of the country’s agriculture, forestry and fishery export revenue.
From the beginning of the year, price of fish increased and its export is positive. However, for sustainable development, government should encourage farmers to invest more in technology and breeding methodologies and apply advanced methods aiming to raise productivity, improve quality, and supply safe food for customers.
The exhibition and seminar is a chance where aquatic breeders and enterprises can exchange problems and technologies in the sector to beef up efficiency. Additionally, there should be collaboration between the breeders and enterprises to build chains of safe products.
