In May alone businesses exported nearly 234,000 tons of rice worth $96 million.

At present, the price of five percent broken rice swings between VND7,550-7,650 a kilogram and 15 percent broken rice between VND7,250-7,350 a kilogram.

The Mekong Delta provinces of Dong Thap, Long An, Vinh Long and Kien Giang have begun to harvest the summer-autumn rice crop.

However, farmers are very concerned because the price has fallen to VND4,000-4,100 a kilogram for fresh normal rice and VND4,200-4,400 a kilogram for fresh long grain variety.

Low price combined with low output has caused losses to several farmers in the Mekong Delta.
