Price of pig drops sharply
According to the Department of Animal Health, as of February 26, the price of pig went down in the North, the Central and the South Vietnam although the outbreak of ASF only occurred in four northern provinces of Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, and Thanh Hoa.
In the North, there was a decline in pork price from VND 50,000 – VND 53,000 a kilogram ($2.16-$2.29) to VND 42,000 – VND 43,000 ($1.81-$1.85) on February 26.
Similarly, pigs are fetching VND 44,000 ($1.90) in the Central Vietnam after African swine fever outbreak occurred in the north –central province of Thanh Hoa and VND 39,000 ($1.68) in Nghe An in particular.
Because no outbreak of African swine fever has been reported in the South Vietnam, price of pig here fluctuated. Prices of pigs in Binh Duong and Soc Trang provinces surged by VND 1,000 a kilogram on February 26 whereas it dropped in Vinh Long Province and Can Tho city in the Mekong delta.
Specifically, a kilogram of pig was sold at VND53,000 ($2.29) in Vinh Long Province and VND 56,000 ($2.41) in Can Tho City.
