Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh on January 6 said there was enough evidence to prosecute Huynh Ngoc Sy, accused of accepting a bribe from Japan-based Pacific Consultants International (PCI) in 2008.
Mr. Anh said evidence of bribery was uncovered after investigators translated 3,000 pages of documents from the Japanese Government.
Responding to questions from the media as to whether police had found anyone else involved in the bribery case, Mr. Anh said not yet.
Sy, former director of the managing board of the East-West Highway Project in Ho Chi Minh City, is accused of accepting US$850,000 from PCI to help the company win consultant contracts related to the project.
PCI officials were found guilty last year in Japan and some were punished for bribing Mr. Sy and breaking healthy-competition laws.
Police said Sy would be charged soon.
Last year he was also found guilty of pocketing State budget funds and was sentenced to two years in prison.
