The Market Control Department of Vinh Long Province announced on October 25 that they had seized 60,000 tons of illicit fertilizer in Tich Thien Commune in Tra On District, but were still looking for the owner.

On October 19, authorities found the fertilizer being transferred from two small boats onto a vessel in Tra On District. The transporters declared that they were hired to transfer the fertilizer from Phung Hiep District in Hau Giang Province to Tra On District. On further inspection they failed to show any proof of the origin of the fertilizer and did not know the identity of the owner. Therefore, authorities seized the fertilizer and the vehicles, and took samples of the fertilizer for quality checking.
According to Pham Tu Phuong, head of the Market Control Department of Vinh Long Province, some vessels at sea illegally sold fertilizer to smaller boats who then sold it to farmers in provinces in the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City.
This has been the biggest haul of illicit fertilizer uncovered by authorities in Vinh Long Province so far.
