Two daughters of Mr. Tran Hoang in District 5, one is seven years old and another is five years old, were studying at an international school in District 11 when they went missing on March 7.
Afterwards, Mr. Hoang’s mother received an SMS message from a strange number, demanding his family to give US$50,000 of ransom for release of the two girls.
Being notified of the case, District 11 Police Department coordinated with the Criminal Police Agency under HCMC Police Department to investigate the case and seek the two children.
Major general Phan Anh Minh, deputy director of HCMC Police and head of the Investigation Police Agency, directly guided the case investigation. Security camera footages on March 7 showed a housekeeper of Mr. Hoang’s family came to the school to pick up the two children and took them to a place where a man was waiting. They all then left for an unknown location. The housekeeper is 15 years old Le Hoang Phuong Dung from Tra Vinh province,
Scouts moved to districts in the city’s outskirts and Tra Vinh, Binh Duong, Long An and Tay Ninh provinces to seek them. On March 9, they raid rental room in Le Van Quoi street, Binh Tri Dong A ward, Binh Tan district; found out Dung and the two children there; successfully rescued the girls and returned them back to their family.
Initial investigation shows that Huong, an acquaintance of Mr. Hoang’s family, is one of instigators of the abduction and blackmail.
The case has been investigating to bring out other related culprits.
