HCMC Customs detect 90kg ivories & crafts from trunk

Ho Chi Minh City Customs and anti-smuggling officers June 22 discovered a consignment containing more than 39 ivories and 90kg of products made from trunk.

Ho Chi Minh City Customs and anti-smuggling officers June 22 discovered a consignment containing more than 39 ivories and 90kg of products made from trunk.

The products valued at more than VND4 billion (US$188,271) was transported by air from Africa to Vietnam through Tan Son Nhat International Airport. The sender and receiver are two identified companies and the consignment was declared as foodm said HCMC Customs.

Under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) of Wild Fauna and Flora, trunks are a part of precious and rare species therefore they strictly are prohibited for trading.
