The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs plans to include domestic workers on the list of official jobs in the country.
The Propaganda and Education Commission of the Party Central Committee discussed policies and regulations for domestic workers on December 21 in Hanoi. The country currently has more than 200,000 domestic workers with most being women workers.
As per a survey by the International Labor Organization (ILO), a domestic worker commands an average monthly salary of VND2.8 million (US$133) whereas the average monthly income of a resident in a rural district is only VND1.4 million ($66.3) and a fresh college graduate can earn around VND2 million a month.
Accordingly, if domestic work is brought under official job status, all workers will be able to enjoy full rights as per regulations, such as training and employment certificates, and will also not suffer any kind of discrimination.
