Consumption of alcohol drinks in young people increased drastically, causing serious consequences, said the Department of Preventive Medicine under the Ministry of Health.
As per a study of the Department, those who begin drinking before age 15 are five times more likely to develop alcoholism than those who begin at age 21, six times more likely to partake in violent activities, six times more likely to face traffic accidents, 5 times more likely to get injuries after consuming alcohol drinks.
As per a survey conducted in 2008, around 80 percent of male and 37 percent of female in the age of 14-25 have alcohol drinks, an increase of 10 percent in men and 8 percent in women compared to 5 years before ( in 2003)
Another survey in 2009 showed that 20.8 percent of male and female teenagers drived after consuming alcohol drinks and they got injuries resulting in absence from schools or work for one week.
