900 gram neonate with inborn heart problem operated successfully

The Children Hospital No.1 in Ho Chi Minh City yesterday said that surgeons have succeeded in operating 900 gram neonate with inborn heart problem.

The baby’s mother from the Mekong delta province of Vinh Long gave birth the baby at 31 week pregnancy. She was taken to a hospital in Ho Chi Minh City where doctors performed a C-section to have a 900 gram baby girl. The baby was examined to have innate heart problem.

Soon the baby was transferred to the Children Hospital No.1 for further treatment.

Dr. Pham Thi Thanh Tam, head of the Intensive Care ward of the hospital, said that it is likely that the baby will die without operation to cut the narrow pulse.

Medical workers were run off their feet to carry out the operation soon. After one hour, surgeons got success.

At present, the baby is no longer put on ventilator. Her condition is stable though she was fed through a tube.
