According to Mr. Tuan, the country now has 10.1 million of elderly people, accounting for 11 percent of population. The number of people at the age of 80 and older is two million people.
The Vietnamese elderly ratio is forecast to increase to 18 percent by 2030 and 26 percent by 2050.
Developed economies take a couple of decades or even a century to transfer from aging population to old population phase. Still, Vietnam will take only 15 years with the current aging speed.
