Special quarantine cells at international border gates have been asked to check body heat of incoming passengers so as to detect and prevent a new SARS-like virus ‘Coronavirus’ from entering the country, said Nguyen Van Binh, head of the Department of Preventive Health, on October 1.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has already confirmed two severe infections and one death from the deadly virus.

Quarantine teams at International Airports in Ho Chi Minh City, Noi Bai and Da Nang have been asked to detect tourists’ body heat and medical condition.

The special task force will then alert the infected subjects of severe acute respiratory problems with as yet no identifiable cause and warn other people travelling from that particular country.

The special task forces have been asked to prepare anti-virus equipment and be prepared to take suspected holidaymakers to hospitals in the cities.  The hospitals for National Tropical Disease in Hanoi and in HCMC have been assigned to receive such people. WHO   standard laboratories will conduct tests of the blood samples.

The Department of Preventive Health is encouraging people from affected areas in the world to inform of their health condition to local health authorities for close monitoring.

Earlier, WHO confirmed two cases of Coronavirus infection in one Saudi Arabian citizen who succumbed to the virus, and another a Qatar national.

Coronavirus infected patients will suffer from acute renal impairment and respiratory disorder that can result in death, said medical experts.
