The Police Department of Criminal Investigation said Monday that it has started prosecutions against three Ho Chi Minh City employees of China Airlines in for allegedly pocketing almost US$5.7 million from the Taiwanese carrier.
The arrested are accountant Diep Kinh Chi, cashier Lu Cam Hy, both born in 1983, and Pho Vi Nhat, born in 1973, according to the police department – a unit of the Ministry of Public Security.
According to the police, since March 2009, cashier Hy had stolen some cash from money paid by agents to share with accountant Chi. Every two or three days, Hy took VND60 million on average and made an 8:2 division – eight for Chi and two for Hy. Then accountant Chi balanced with money received the next day, with fake documents.
In April 2011, the cashier was promoted to chief accountant and Chi became an office staff, so the proportion became 5:5, according to the police.
Hy told the police that he had pocketed about US$200,000. He added Pho Vi Nhat, who had earlier served as an accountant and cashier, had misappropriated the airline’s money.
Also according to the police, in addition to almost US$5.7 million the three people stole from China Airlines, they have misappropriated US$146,410 from Mandarin Airlines, which is represented in Vietnam by China Airlines.
