Responding to a rumor that stations have limited petrol supplies, petrol giants have affirmed that there is currently no fuel shortage.
Heads of leading petrol firms in Vietnam, including Petrolimex, PVOil and Petec, said there is no reason for petrol stations to short supply as there was enough stock of petrol.
Nguyen Van Thang, director of the Petrolimex Saigon, said Petrolimex stations were open round the clock including on holidays and there was no limited quota for selling nor was there any speculation of a price hike.
Mr. Thang said if anyone finds a Petrolimex station refusing to sell petrol or selling in limited quantity, then the company must be informed so the station can be penalized as it is bound by contract or else lose its agency license.
Earlier, the Ministry of Industry and Trade had sent an official letter to central provinces and cities, and petrol traders to ignore rumors of a potential hike in petrol prices.
The Ministry has also ordered provincial and municipal Industry and Trade departments to ask petrol wholesalers and retailers to open their stations during regular hours and supply sufficient fuel to consumers.
