Abdul Basith, a lecturer at Bogor Agricultural University, and former naval officer Sony Santoso were arrested along with eight other suspects, who they had recruited from outside Jakarta.
The group planned to place explosive devices at seven locations in business centres around the city – namely Otista, Kelapa Gading, Senen, Glodok and Taman Anggrek – and to explode them during the “Mujahid 212 Rally” on September 28. The attack was said to target Chinese-Indonesians in the country.
According to the police, Abdul, who admitted to planning, recruiting and financing the bombing, prepared 29 fish bombs filled with nails for the attack.
Abdul said that the plan was discussed at the house of Soenarko on September 20 and that the former naval officer suggested the seven spots.
