The People’s Court in Hanoi on Thursday opened a trial hearing of 29 gang members charged with human trafficking and dealing in prostitution.

All the 29 offenders have been charged with human trafficking, child   trafficking, harbouring criminals, accessory to criminal activities, and dealing in prostitution.

In mid 2010, the case shocked the general public, particularly because of its wide-scale reach in several cities and provinces including Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Nam Dinh, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh and Yen Bai.

Tran Hoang Anh, the ringleader, traded seven women and ten children from February 2009 to July 2010.

Other of his gang members have also been charged for the same crime. Vu Van Cong and his accomplices sold eight women and children; Nguyen Nhat Canh sold four persons; Tran Thi Hien and Hoang Dinh Tuan two; Bui Ngoc Luong five; Vu Thi Tam, Dinh Xuan Tu and Pham Ngoc Anh sold three humans.
