After a rumor that a snack product manufactured in Hanoi was found to contain bloodsucking leeches, the Vietnam Food Administration (VFA) under the Ministry of Health released a document on October 15 rejecting the rumor as false.

VFA released a document to quash the rumor that a customer in Thuy Thanh Commune in Thua Thien-Hue Province bought a packet of Yoyo snacks on October 10, and when it was soaked in water, some leeches were seen floating above.
VFA had taken samples of the snack being sold in the province for testing in the same way, by soaking in water, but found no parasitic worms of any kind in the snack food.
Similarly, VFA has also turned down rumors of presence of leeches in milk and other food items. As the milk is usually pasteurized at more than 140 degree Celsius, no insects, parasites, or larva of any kind can survive in it, confirmed the health watchdog.
After buying any processed food products, if customers preserve them in a dry, clean place and follow instructions given by manufacturers, no parasite can infect the product.
