The infirmary receives more than 66,000 pregnant women from 32 southern provinces annually. Of babies, hundreds of premature babies need mother milk yet they have to consume infant formula as human milk is not available.
Realizing the golden value of human milk and the feasibility of donated human milk to save and treat hundreds of premature babies, the hospital has worked out a human milk bank project since 2016.
The project has received the Ministry of Health and the Department’s approval. The scientific council reconsidered and supported it in July, 2018.
First human international-standard milk bank in HCMC is expected to join with the global and Southeast Asian human milk network which is a pride of the city health sector. The human milk bank also benefits the health of city dwellers and residents in the south.
