Food awards honor ‘clean, delicious’ products

The Delicious Food Vietnam Awards honors hundreds of winners amid food scandals

Nearly 300 food products produced by 128 local business, and 40 dishes prepared by 40 local restaurants, were bestowed with Delicious Food Vietnam Awards on April 19 for their makers’ outstanding commitment to food safety and quality.

The list of winners, most of which were large companies and restaurants, with few small businesses making the list, had to satisfy the three requirements of nutrition, cleanliness and deliciousness, said organizers from the  magazine Mon Ngon Viet Nam (Delicious Foods Vietnam), published by the Ministry of Labor – Invalids and Social Affairs

From now on, the winning products will be labeled with the award’s logo. 

The voting took place from June 1, 2009 to Oct 31,2009, on the magazine’s website.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Linh, chairman of the Mon Ngon Viet Nam Co., Ltd., told the ceremony that the awards aimed to help families navigate the vast food market in Vietnam, where several cases of unsafe food have been exposed recently.

The magazine plans to hld the wards next year as well, with voting to start this June on three media channels, including directly with Mon ngon Viet Nam and Gia dinh vao bep (Family Cooking) magazines, as well as Mon ngon’s website and direct surveys with customers in public places.
