Drug-smuggling network uncovered in HCMC

The narcotics division of the Ministry of Public Security has uncovered a drug-smuggling network operating across from Tanzania in East Africa through Doha in Qatar all the way to Ho Chi Minh City.

On July 18, 20-year-old Tran Ha Tien, returning to Vietnam from Doha was nabbed by custom officials at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City checking out with a bag containing 4.1 kilograms of Methamphetamine, an addictive drug. Upon further questioning the girl revealed her links with a drug-smuggling ring.

Based on the information provided by Tien, the narcotics police apprehended three more people, namely, Tran Ha Duy, from the highland province of Lam Dong and Huynh Ngoc Loi, Tran Thanh Hai Thao, from Cu Chi district of Ho Chi Minh City.

While conducting a raid of the three men’s rented apartment in District 4, police found a double layered suitcase with a false bottom containing 4 kilograms of solidified drugs.
