Dong Nai woman gets 11 years in jail for subversion

The Dong Nai Province People’s Court Wednesday sentenced a provincial woman 11 years in prison on charges of activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration.

The Dong Nai Province People’s Court Wednesday sentenced a provincial woman 11 years in prison on charges of activities aimed at overthrowing the people’s administration.

Pham Thi Phuong was also charged of cheating and appropriating others’ property, forging documents of State agencies and abetting others to illegally immigrate into foreign countries.

At the court in the southern province, she admitted having forged 12 family books to file immigration application sets under the category of Vietnamese-American mixed children for 55 people.

The verdict said she and her family fled to Thailand in October 2002. During her Thailand stay, she contacted member of an anti-government called Vi Dan (For the People) Party, and joined it in January 2010.

On April 17, 2010, she entered Vietnam to represent Mat Tran Giai Phong Mien Nam Viet Nam (Liberation Front of South Vietnam), to conduct activities in order to overthrow the people’s administration. She was arrested four days later.

She accepted all the accusations mentioned in the verdict at the court.
